Shelving and wall fixings in Cirencester

Putting a shelf up sounds simple until you meet the wall behind it. I fit shelving, picture rails, mirrors, curtain poles, blinds, TV brackets and towel rails in homes across Cirencester and the surrounding villages.

What is included

Floating shelves, bracket shelves, alcove shelves, kitchen rails, spice racks, coat hooks, picture hanging (one frame or a full gallery wall), heavy mirrors, bathroom mirrors, towel rails, toilet roll holders, curtain poles, curtain tracks, roller blinds, Venetian blinds, Roman blinds. I'll also wall-mount a smaller TV (kitchen, bedroom, study) if the bracket is straightforward.

Before I drill, I check what the wall is made of. Plasterboard, brick, stone and tile each need a different fixing, and I carry them all. Tiles get a special drill bit so they don't crack. The right fixing is what keeps a shelf up for years.

What is NOT included

Big living-room TVs (55 inches and over), brackets that swing out, and cables hidden in the wall are jobs for a TV fitting company. I don't run cables behind plasterboard or do structural work on load-bearing walls.

How long it takes

A single shelf or a few picture hooks: under an hour. A full set of alcove shelves, a gallery wall, or blinds fitted in the same room will usually fill a half-day slot. Curtain poles across a whole house can run to a full day.

Pricing

The first hour is £55 and includes getting to you if you're within five miles of Cirencester. It's the minimum charge, so it's worth saving up a few small jobs for one visit. After that it's £35 an hour, charged in half-hours. Got a longer list? A half day (4 hours) is £125 and a full day (8 hours) is £230. If you need brackets or fixings I don't carry, I'll tell you the cost before I buy them.

Common questions

Can you hang a heavy mirror on plasterboard? Yes, with the right spring toggles or heavy-duty cavity fixings rated for the weight. I bring a selection.

Will the shelves be level? I check every one with a spirit level. In older houses where nothing is quite square, a truly level shelf can look crooked, so I'll ask whether you'd rather line it up with the ceiling.

Do I need to buy the brackets? You can, or I can pick them up on the way. Just tell me the make and model when you call.
